WUKO European Championships
|
The first official European Championships of the re-established WUKO was held between 8-11 June, 2006 in St.Poelten, Austria. 18 associations from 12 countries competed in 247 individual and 49 team events. The Hungarian team was less successful than expected, but honourably held his ground. Beside the nice spirit, the championships was the place of fair play and common thinking; our referees and coaches could carry on their works without any claims or sharp disputes.

Results:
Attila Szécsényi (Nihon USE): veteran kata rengokai: 3rd place, veteran kata wado style 1st place, veteran kumite sanbon shobu 3rd place.
Male team kumite Shobu sanbon:> 3rd place - Dániel Berkes (SZESE), Ferenc Jánosi (SZESE), Tamás Pénzes (Csata) and Zoltán Szabó (SZESE).
Andrea Rapcsányi (Csata): Female individual wado kata 3rd place.
Enikő Bodnár (Baja Wado): female shobu sanbon kumite over 60kg 3rd place.
Facts of the European Championships:
Zoltán Szabó (SZESE) confidently bet the Romanian competitor during the team events who won the first place in their weight category. He lost his individual fight for the Bronze medal with shikaku, for which the fight leading referees can slightly be caused: several times they did not gave the scores for Zoli's fast hand techniques so he was pressed to take the risk. He started a head kick, which his enemy bent in and lost his faint.
Ottó Fábrik (RTE Botond Szeged) and Norbert Megyesi (SZESE): they did more beyond expectations; Ottó easy won in the first match, Norbi falled out after leading for 5:1 because of an adverse contact fault.
Emília Négyökrű (RTE Botond Szeged) and Enikő Bodnár (Baja Wado) also introduced themselves bravely and successfully. Tamás Major (Baja Wado) caught 4th place in male wado kata.
Another success for our sport diplomacy is that the Hungarian male kumite team was invited to the competition between Italy, Romania and Belgium for the challenge cup. Our organization will hold the 3rd WUKO European Championships in 2010! The team of our international referees has been extended as Attila Szécsényi 3 Dan dojo leader (and also European Champion) was appointed as international referee!
